I bought a anwering phone/cordless phone system from Panasonic 2 years ago and I no longer had a receipt. We purchased this product in March 2008. We found that other people complained about the same problem. They are aware of the faulty design and are not willing to stand behind their product. That is a company that stands behing what they make. We contacted Samsung and all they offered was to pay for the parts (about $5 worth) but we would be responsible for the labor ($160).
They paid for me to ship it back and they gave me a refurbished answering machine. In November of 2009 the machine kept shutting off and eventually started smoking. I called them up because it was not working. We decided to put the $160 toward a more reliable product like Sony. This is the first and last time we ever buy Samsung. No questions asked.
Don't by this model, the fan cannot cool the unit off and it overheats.
If I attempted to restart it would simply shut down again within a few minutes. I purchased this product less than 6 months ago. It recently began shutting off about 30 minutes into a movie. Researching the issue on the internet I found MANY other people who had a similar issue. It appears that the system is overheating.
there is a system on board to "protect" the system and auto shuts down the system so it doesn't overheat.I read that several do it yourself gurus online suggest opening the system up to replace fan or inspect the elements around the fan to remedy the issue - BUT I DO NOT ENCOURAGE THIS - once you open it voids the warranty if you still have one AND it is dangerous to mess with electronics if you are not a trained professional. I really enjoyed the simplicity, ease of set up and many options this all in one DVD home theater system offered. It is not audiophile grade, but for the home user it is more than sufficient for movies, high definition programing, gaming, etc. The system heats up and the small fan cannot keep up with cooling it. Buyers beware. After about three months, when we were using the system for more than 20 or 30 minutes at a time, we started to notice that it would shut down on its own.weird.but after spending some time with the unit - i noticed that it read "protection" on the read out screen just prior to shutting down.
I suggest you do as I am going to do - GO AFTER THE MAKER.SAMSUNG - shame on you. I set this up in a entertainment system unit that held my xbox 360, 42" LCD TV, cable modem, ipod etc.The system sounds great for the size room and has low and high end response from the speaker system. I certainly want to point out that messing with this unit MAY cause a fire as it is an electrical device. and, upon further investigation, i noted that the unit was SUPER HOT when it did this. I went online to do a little research and have found that this is a common issue with this model and it it is due to a lousy design. you should fix these on your dime.
I love this unit. Other than a small glitch that causes me to have to turn it off and on sometimes when switching between HDMI and regular channels this is a great unit. Good sound at low decibal and nice solid bass filled when cranked. Excellent for an avereage sized living room.
I was fairly happy with this product until it died after having owned it for about 10 months. Not sure what to think of a product that died so quickly. At first, I noticed that the fan stopped working, and then the unit would shut down by itself 5 minutes after turning it on. I opened it out of curiosity and noticed a capacitor had burned inside (looked like popcorn). Maybe it's just an isolate incident but I guess it's still worth sharing. Good luck.
